Art has been an important part of "Who I am" ever since I could hold a pencil. I am very fortunate to have been gifted with artistic ability and have been encouraged throughout my life by family and friends.
My roots are in Indiana, having been born here, but I've lived at various places as an adult, including Southeastern US and Eastern Africa. These experiences have broadened my worldview and contributed greatly to the subject matter of my paintings.
My art education has been informal. Outside of a few college courses in painting and drawing it has consisted of visiting museums to study the paintings of Monet, Cassatt and various artists I admire. I've also spent a great deal of time in my studio experimenting to develop the techniques I use today.
When my children were young, I started freelancing, mainly illustration, as well as graphic design. Later on, I took a position as art director for a custom tile studio in Indianapolis, where I learned to design and hand make ceramic tile, as well as marble mosaics for many top designers in the city.
Following this period, I opened my own studio, Pati, Artist, in Indianapolis, where I designed and painted many fine art murals in homes and businesses. I traveled some during this time, doing murals in a children's hospital at Medical College of Georgia, as well as residential clients in Naples, FL.
For the past 15 years I've concentrated on painting on canvas. I specialize in both portraits and landscapes, drawing inspiration from my travels and the interesting people I've met. I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I love and share it with others.
