Joan Nelson

An interior design class at Ball State University taught by Dr. Alice Nichols led Joan to a lifelong appreciation of mid-century modern furniture and abstract art.  Over the years she has collected some of her favorite mid-century furniture as well as original artwork by contemporary artists from Indiana and Michigan.  These works bring her joy, comfort, and inspiration.

Joan pursued her art education through classes at Ball State University, workshops with local friends Ann Johnson and Susie Burns, artists David Slonim, Bob Burridge, and French Impressionist painter Pierre Bittar, as well as watercolorists Tony Couch, Sterling Edwards, and Paul Jackson.  Quilting and fiber arts are her other passions.

She has enjoyed her membership in MAG, particularly working on the mural gifts to the City of Muncie and Ball State University.  In addition to MAG, she is  affiliated with DOMA Art Alliance, Friends of DOMA, and the Muncie Art Students League.
